WEBINAR: FOOD PACKAGING RECYCLING – CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
On 26 March 2026, VTT and SIE organised the webinar “Food Packaging Recycling – Challenges and Opportunities” as part of the Policy Dialogue Webinar series. The session brought together relevant perspectives on the current challenges facing food packaging recycling and the opportunities for improving circularity in the sector.
During the webinar, STOPP Coordinator Milad Mosallaei spoke about the key barriers that had limited the effective recycling of food packaging. He also addressed the main technological and systemic challenges across the value chain, highlighting the need for more coordinated solutions involving materials, design, collection, sorting, and recycling processes.
The discussion also explored opportunities to improve recyclability and underlined the importance of aligning innovation with policy needs. In this context, the webinar showed how EU-funded projects such as STOPP had contributed to supporting evidence-based policy dialogue and to advancing more sustainable approaches for food packaging systems.
