STOPP project workshop held during the 4R open innovation ecosystem annual assembly in Helsinki

CLIC Innovation is a not-for-profit company based in Helsinki, Finland, focusing on green system transition. Its mission is to build and manage open innovation collaboration between companies, academia and other relevant stakeholder qroups in bioeconomy, energy and circular economy themes. CLIC innovation addresses systemic challenges that arise from the scarcity of natural resources and drive green system transition. CLIC drives the transition with an open innovation ecosystem approach and projects taking a quadruple helix approach.
4R is a dedicated Innovation Ecosystem targeting at solving the Plastics Challenge . The ecosystem strives to solve the plastics challenge by building new solutions for enhanced recycling of plastics and to develop bio-based materials to replace plastics.

On 14 January 2025, the 4R annual assembly theme focused on “Value and impact from innovation – solving together the systemic challenges of circular plastics.” 50 participants, business representatives, academics, NGOS, heard from experts tackling the pressing issues of sustainability and circularity.

In the afternoon a dedicated workshop session was organised by STOPP project partners. During the workshop, Erwan Mouazan, senior researcher at the University of Vaasa and STOPP work package leader focusing on business strategies, offered a deep dive on systemic business models for reusable packaging. During the workshop views from different business representatives and academics were collected to characterise drivers and barriers associated with the scaling up of reusable packaging models. The insights will be disseminated in an upcoming deliverable combining views from various experts and stakeholders from the plastic packaging value chain.
